Good to be back

By Chris Toy on August 11, 2011

That was a wholly uninspiring summer for me as far as fodder for SU comics, in case the lack of them wasn’t making that obvious. But we’re back, albeit riot-disrupted, and I can’t wait.

How are you guys doing? Good. A lot of you have written, tweeted, FB’d me to let me know how much you miss the regular comics and believe me I do too, but it’s just one of those things where if I’m not hit by an idea then I’d rather not force the issue and churn out some quick bollocks. If I love a comic I put out and some of you guys don’t, I can live with that. But if I don’t even like the idea I have in my head, then there’s just no point.

Studs Up’s going on three years old now, and this was the first summer where I just felt… bleh… about the every story that came along. Some of it was probably that this was the busiest summer of my life, that certainly didn’t help. But the storylines felt so stale. I mean Cesc to Barca? Still? I suppose I could make it an annual “Summer Cesc” storyline but jaysus.

Anyway, football is back. And so is Studs Up. I hope.

Like Waking Up From A Nightmare

By Chris Toy on August 7, 2011

All summer long I tweeted about how I haven’t really felt any momentum leading into the new Premier League season. I’m really not sure what the problem was, but today’s Community Shield match was the harsh, open-handed, rings-turned-inside slap in the face that I needed.

CAN’T WAIT.

MLS All Star is kinda tiring

By Chris Toy on July 27, 2011

Bit of a crazy week, been a guest of the MLS’ here at All Star week in NYC and attending a bunch of parties with essentially the same people at them – a slightly strange phenomenon that reminds me weirdly of college. Except everyone is a lot older. And wearing suits.

For whatever reason the momentum of this premier league off season isn’t grabbing me, I dunno why. I think it’s that no one is really making any moves besides United, Chelsea and City and those are probably the least interesting clubs to buy anyone. Billionaires buying more toys is not exciting.

I’m sure that’ll change once we break into August, I mean the new season is just a couple weeks away and I’m looking forward to getting some proper material back to work with.

Huzzah

By Chris Toy on July 13, 2011

After a rather impromptu week-long trip to Costa Rica, I’m back. This summer has been incredibly unpredictable, but fun, and wreaked havoc on the comic schedule time and time again. But with pre-season starting up and the season not far off, things are back in full swing.

Have a bunch of boot and gear reviews to come as well, thanks for all the support as always!

To all the Americans out there. To the non-Americans, it’s Monday and that sucks. Here is a video of bird annoying a cat to help you through it:

It’s Gonna Be A Good One

By Chris Toy on June 13, 2011

Back from my break and feeling great. Montauk was pretty great and it felt good to get out the city, enjoying a beach town during the week sans crowds. Can’t beat wandering the streets in the sun, eating ice cream and… working remotely. It’s going to be a great year, thanks again for reading SU and there’s a lot of great stuff in store for the comic and a bunch of exciting football projects I’m working on.

Also, have a few footwear reviews to come. Finally got enough match/training time with the new AdiPower Predator to review it comfortably so keep an eye out for that one this week.

KCKRS plus… a bit of a break.

By Chris Toy on June 4, 2011

So two big announcements, one is that I’ve just launched my latest project KCKRS with a few guys you’ll probably recognize from other sites. You should check out my welcome post for the full scoop. I’m incredibly excited about the potential of the site and we have more great ideas than we know what to do with right now.

Secondly, with the comic schedule going to shit the past few weeks as my other work on KCKRS and other football projects has really gotten crazy I decided to just fully take next week off and recharge my batteries. Studs Up is amazing, fun and I love doing it but I feel it requires me to be more relaxed than I currently feel to be able to do comics I’m proud of.

So a week off to reset my brain, and then a renewed attempt to come up with something funny 3 times a week on June 13th. Fingers crossed.

Ok. Deep Breath.

By Chris Toy on June 2, 2011

So as many of you have noticed, the comic schedule has gone to shit again. I apologize. It’s a combination of the end of the season, being incredibly busy and… being incredibly busy. A few new projects are about to launch that I think you guys will be really excited about, but unfortunately it’s come at the cost of being able to really sit down and spend time on comics 3 times a week. I could just bang out some quick ones, but that does me nor you any good. I enjoy writing and drawing SU and if I can’t spend the time, I’d rather hold off till I can.

That said, a few things are closing up this week and I’ll be making a renewed effort to get the schedule back no track. Thanks for all the emails with subject line: WHERE ARE MY COMICS. I promise they’re coming!
