Game Time Decision

Friday’s comic came late because, even though I had one about 80% done, a post from my man Brooks at Dirty Tackle forced me to change gears. This post, to be exact.

And this cover/headline, to be exacterouser.

For those of us who don’t have access to Mexican sport magazines, the reader who sent it in to DT provided this explanation:

Check this out, this was the cover of Record in Mexico City and Guadalajara following Chicharito’s game winning goal against Valencia. According to them, the English press has given the great Javier Hernandez, pride of my beloved Goats the nickname “Baby Killer.” They’re translating “Baby Killer” (which I think we can all assume was meant to be “Killer Baby,” which doesn’t sound that much better). If you want to go with what they wrote in Spanish it translates to “Child/Boy Assassin.” Lastly, I browsed online and saw no mention of this nickname other than him being called “Killer Pea.” Anyways, thought you’d find this hilarious and worth mentioning on DT.

Even more disturbing was the fact that, while my gut reaction was that the “Baby Killer” story was a rare opportunity for SU that I couldn’t pass up, I realised that the comic I had written earlier actually involved infant attacks as well. So… I’m pretty sure I’m some sort of psycho.

It’s been a hectic week for me and I actually have no idea who’s even playing this weekend, although some mentalist on the bus was screaming into his phone about Arsenal vs Chelsea so I’ll assume that’s on the cards. In trying to weigh up what results would create the best season, I’m torn on this one. Last week it was clear a City win over Chelsea would help open things up, but now we’re faced with either allowing the Roman’s side to get back on track or to revitalise the West Brom-crushed dreams of Wenger’s latest “good enough to win something” squad. I think a feisty draw would be in order, both dropping points and sending various message boards into crisis mode once again.

It’s also really nice to get back to writing. Between SU, SUFC and trying to complete the first printed collection of Studs Up comics for release by the end of the year (woohoo!) I’m being pulled all over. But as I approach the end of this post, it’s a reminder how effective it can be at centering all of those things in my head.

Regularity in the blog posts is long overdue, so this marks my 5th or 500th attempt/promise to make it so. If I fail to write at least every M/W/F to match the comic, you have my permission to email me and call me a butt.
