More lovely toys arrived at my door, this time the folks at Havaianas sent me some pairs of their limited run of World Cup flip flops. If you’re unfamiliar with the Brazilian brand, Havaianas are the brightly coloured flip flops with the little Brazilian flag on the thong that you’ve probably seen, oh, EVERYONE YOU KNOW wearing. They’ve been featured in gift bags at the Oscars, on the feet of crazy numbers of celebrities and are pretty much a global phenomenon at this point.
I’ve had a previous pair, but generally struggle with flip flops as I have rather fussy feet that blister all over the damn place. But I was hopeful for a new pair, Havaianas asked which country I wanted and so naturally I plumped for Australia, but was surprised to find they included a bonus Brazil pair as well encouraging me to support their team as well as my own. Done and done.
The sandals were originally based on those Japanese ones you see on the feet of Samurais etc in films, with the thick sole and Y strap but the the new models have been modified somewhat. The sole seemed thicker even from the first pair I had, sporting a rather luxurious chunk of foam. Sadly even after a few minutes walking around the flat, I could feel some irritation at my toes as all flip flops tend to give me but I think these may be worth breaking in for a few weeks.
