My Precious…
Thanks to everyone who bought a Footie Cookie shirt so far, it’s already almost sold out of its second run. You guys are the best!
In other news, I couldn’t resist and had to pick myself up an iPad. Originally I was going to wait for the second-generation of the device as Apple tends to save the best for latter iterations but more importantly it takes app publishers some time to produce their best work. Think of how crap the first television shows ever must have been and, while this isn’t quite so alien, the logic is much the same.
However after traveling up to the Apple store under the guise of “walking the dog” I ended up playing with, and purchasing one. I can tell you, it is delicious. More delicious than any delicious thing ever produced with the explicit intent of being especially delicious.
I’m unabashedly an Apple fanboy because their stuff just make my life a lot easier. It’s not just that they make awesome hardware and software products but it’s the fact that not only are they great individually but the more you own the more impact they have on your life through greater access and options for travel, rooms at home, meetings etc. I own two Mac laptops, an iPhone and now an iPad but also sync my documents, calendar etc to the Apple cloud via MobileMe. That software, coupled with iTunes, means that every digital document or file I own syncs and is accessible across all my devices no matter which combination I have with me for a specific situation. For someone who works remotely and travels as much as I do, that’s killer.
The iPad itself is as gorgeous as you’d expect, and has instantly become my sidekick while at home. While I would usually watch TV with a laptop on my lap and my phone at my side, I now just keep my iPad around. It’s much more convenient, less strain on my lap in weight and heat, and is much faster and more fun to do what I need to do (access the web, email, play some casual games, tweet etc) without all the unnecessary stuff that fills 99% of the average laptop.
I’m also excited about the iPad as a drawing device, I had considered getting a smaller Wacom tablet to take with me when I travel so I can continue to do comics and doodle but the iPad presens a tremendous alternative option. I’ve already downloaded 3 drawing apps including Sketchbook Pro which looks to be the best of the lot. Games look amazing, especially ones like Plants vs Zombies and browsing the web is a fast, clean joy.
I’ll post some doodles later, but for now here’s some glory shots of the new toy…
