The Pengy Show + The “Chinatown Flat Ball”
The Pengy Show, Late Night With Pengy, The Pengy Hour. All good names in the name of giving our little guy some more air time. Liverpool did their best to force me to do yet another comic about this staggering catastrophe they call a season, but I resisted. In the name of a penguin. Did I mention that Gerrard, Torres and Benayoun are all out for weeks? Turns out I may have been considerably pre-mature in using up the seppuku joke.
I’ve mentioned before the excellent Chinatown Soccer Club, based out of New York, essentially a group of creatives (photographers, artists etc) who decided to get together every week in the name of football. They’ve also done some brilliant creative work in the name of the sport, including collaborations with Adidas, biking mag Velosophie. I’ve gotten to know a couple of them recently and they’re great guys fully intent on bringing more to the football creative table.
Case in point, CSC member Dan Funderburgh has created a brilliant piece of art based on an unraveled football, laid flat. There’s only 70 of the “Chinatown Flat Ball” being produced, each signed and numbered by Dan himself and available exclusively through Arkitip for USD$75.
I bought mine already and plan to get it framed to pop over the desk, a reminder not to let football just be about transfer rumours and telling rival fans how much butt their mother likes to lick (Hint: a lot of butt).
Promo photos below and I’ll post my own when it arrives in a week or so:
