I tweeted yesterday about how Beckham’s new facial beard resembled 1970s pubic hair, but admittedly the man can pull off just about anything. I expect a thick thatch face-pubes to quickly become the look of the season on stylish young gents.

But like brothers from another mother, Sir Alex is doing his best to show us that he can do as he damn well pleases when it comes to football - and you’ve got to give credit where it’s due.

First he showed us that anything is possible when it comes to him and referees, and he’s now sent a letter directly to talented Belgian Steven Delfour to let him know he was monitoring his recovery from injury. “Tapping Up!” you cry? Hardly, Ferguson sent the letter via his club Standard Liege. That takes balls when the likes of Real Madrid have been linked as well, big, sweaty Scottish balls.

I’m sure loads of press and rival fans will get on his back, but Ferguson hasn’t done anything wrong and you’ve got to admire people like he and Becks who really seem to operate without giving a damn about the backlash.
