When I read Pharrel Bell I could not fail to notice that it was very similar to BBC's Robbo. He is a Middlesbrough supporter and Redcastle sounds like Newcastle + Red of Middlesborough. Is it written by the same person but BBC has the rights over the name of Robbo.

Sounds like all the British comedies given an American touch

I think soccernet should have just copied Sentanta's Special 1 TV, and have Sir Alex doing mock interviews with ex Man U players. Pharell Bell might have been a good concept, but no context. They should have made him a sub on a real team and pretend to provide insight on the dressing room and life beyond. At least there would be somewhat of a link to the current season. He could have been a sub at Newcastle, always talking about what its like to continually lose in front of a packed stadium, and about how Michael Owens ego is 1000x bigger than his manhood.

Greg, I'm perfectly ready to accept that was their goal. In which case I think many people just don't find it funny, or even see what is *supposed* to be funny about it.

As you say, the effort perhaps can be applauded, but I expect a lot better from a site and company with as many resources as Soccernet.

I don't understand the hostile reaction that the blog in question has created. It is merely a playful way to comment on current affairs in the football world. I don't believe that soccernet has any delusions that readers will be fooled or believe Pharrell in real. It becomes a community inside joke. Some readers are too serious minded, or perhaps ignorant, to permit the ruse to be amusing. I can attest to some of the comments being authentic fan interaction. I have posted comments there that propagate the fantasy world of Mr. Bell. I find it entertaining to banter with the soccernet staff. The blog may indeed fail, but I appreciate the effort to diversify content and explore new ways of editorializing football.
