So the big favourite for the Chelsea job is Guus Hiddink. Folks are pointing out that he’s mates with Roman Abramovich, already has ties to Russians by being national coach and has been in contact numerous times with the club about the post. It all makes sense, right?

Well, while being national coach of Russia means he already has a relationship with Roman Abramovich, it also means he is responsible for Russia’s World Cup hopes. If Hiddink leaves and Russia fall apart in their qualification bid, who do you think the country will turn their rather angry, thick-eyebrowed eyes to?

If there’s one thing worse than upsetting Roman Abramovich, it’s upsetting the dozens of other insanely rich Russians who definitely don’t have KGB connections. Watch out, Guus!

UPDATE: Guus has said he won’t leave Chelsea permanently, and it may just be an interim post. Smart man.
