2010 World Cup venues = Uh Oh.

Got this note from Adam, who apparently was lucky enough to spend the last couple weeks traveling around South Africa. He did, as any good football fan should, pay close attention to the 2010 World Cup venues. I wrote about that potential disaster a little bit ago, and his findings were rather interesting.

Hi Chris,

Just read your blog on the 2010 WC in SA and, bearing in mind I just got back from a fortnight in Cape Town, thought I’d let you have my tuppenceworth.

CT looks like a fantastic venue for the competition, it’s a really clean, friendly city, cheap as chips and with an absolutely stunning back-drop in Table Mountain. Unfortunately, the likelihood is that they will still be in the process of actually building their stadium when the first match kicks off. I was speaking to a friend of mine who’s been out there for a couple of months, and the workers have been striking pretty consistently whilst he’s been there. Blatters organisational skills could be put to good use.

HOWEVER – if FIFA were to send Blatter down there personally, I’d have him down where they’re holding the final. i.e. Jo’burg. That MUST’VE been a Blatter idea. You can just imagine the meeting can’t you – Sepp and Michel sitting in their gold-plated office deciding on the destination for the Final (let’s be honest – you really think the host country has anything to do with this??) and deciding that the city that will host the most prestigious football tournament in almost half a decade would be held in the murder & car-jacking capital of the World. Genius. Let’s send Sepp down there personally to sort it all out I say….

Regards,

Adam
