Upon further review…
A few of you let me know that Flamini buggered off on a Bosman not a Webster, which apparently is true despite what multiple newspaper reports are saying. Fecking journos.
In other news, David Villa is rumoured to be on his way to Manchester City for 60 million. Are you kidding me? I’m usually not one of those “This is the end for football” types but this is just stupid. The entire basis of football’s appeal has been the organic nature in which it moves. If you win trophies, then you get the big money and can buy the best players to win more trophies. If you’re crap, then you get relegated and your club could even disappear from the face of the Earth. It’s Sports Capitalism, can you imagine fans of American sports having to deal with such harsh consequences?
So while Chelsea sort of mucked everything about for a bit, they’ve since calmed down. But the oil money flowing through City is on another planet and the entire balance of world football is going to be a bit screwed.
Either the governing bodies put an end to it, or we’ll ultimately end up having to put in salary caps in order to ensure parity. Either way, football as we knew it really is done and dusted.
